Guarantees and aftercare

Solar panel inspector checking installation quality on a UK roof

Quick answer: Your battery retrofit is covered by a 10-year manufacturer warranty (Tesla Powerwall 3, Duracell Dura5, Pylontech US5000), a 2-5 year workmanship guarantee from the installer partner, and optional insurance-backed guarantee protection. We install through MCS-certified partners, so installations meet MCS quality standards.

Key facts

A battery retrofit is a long-term investment. This page explains the manufacturer warranties, workmanship guarantees and insurance-backed protection that apply to your installation, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Manufacturer warranties

The battery and inverter hardware carry manufacturer warranties. The Tesla Powerwall 3, Duracell Dura5 and Pylontech US5000 all come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty as standard. This covers defects in materials and workmanship, and typically guarantees a minimum retained capacity (usually 70% of original) at the end of the warranty period.

Workmanship guarantee

The installation itself is covered by a workmanship guarantee from the installer partner, typically 2 to 5 years. This covers the quality of the installation — wiring, mounting, commissioning and DNO compliance. We install through MCS-certified partners, so the installation meets MCS quality standards.

Insurance-backed guarantee

Insurance-backed guarantee (IBG) protection is available for your installation. An IBG ensures that if the installer ceases trading, the workmanship guarantee is still honoured by an independent insurer. We can advise whether an IBG is included with your installation or available as an add-on.

If something goes wrong

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your installation, contact us first. We will help you raise the issue directly with the installer partner. The installer is responsible for resolving installation issues under their workmanship guarantee and the manufacturer warranty. If the issue cannot be resolved, we have a clear step-by-step complaints procedure with escalation to an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider.

Warranty registration and documentation

After your battery is commissioned, the installer partner registers your hardware warranty with the manufacturer. You should receive printed or digital copies of the warranty certificate for the battery and inverter, along with the workmanship guarantee document and any insurance-backed guarantee paperwork. Keep these documents safe — you will need them if you ever make a warranty claim. We also recommend registering your products directly on the manufacturer's website using the serial numbers provided, as some manufacturers offer extended monitoring features once the product is registered in your name. If you do not receive warranty documentation after installation, contact us and we will chase it with the installer partner on your behalf.

Battery health monitoring

All three battery systems we assess — the Tesla Powerwall 3, Duracell Dura5 and Pylontech US5000 — include a monitoring app or web portal that shows real-time charge and discharge activity, daily energy flows, and long-term performance trends. Regular monitoring helps you spot any drop in performance early. If the app shows the battery is holding less charge than expected or cycling less frequently, that may indicate a fault worth raising with the installer. The monitoring data is also useful evidence if you need to make a warranty claim, as it provides a record of how the system has performed over time. We can help you interpret monitoring data if anything looks unusual.

It is good practice to check the monitoring app periodically rather than only when something seems wrong. Seasonal changes are normal — a battery will cycle more in summer when solar generation is high and less in winter when generation drops. Understanding this seasonal rhythm helps you distinguish normal variation from a genuine problem. If the app reports an error code or the battery stops charging or discharging entirely, contact the installer partner promptly and quote the error code. Most issues are resolved remotely by the installer or manufacturer support, but some require a site visit.

Frequently asked questions

What warranty comes with a retrofit battery?

The Tesla Powerwall 3, Duracell Dura5 and Pylontech US5000 each carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty. The installer partner provides a 2-5 year workmanship guarantee. Insurance-backed guarantee protection is also available.

What if something goes wrong after installation?

Contact us on 0141 230 0198 and we will liaise with the installer partner on your behalf. Manufacturer warranties cover hardware defects; the workmanship guarantee covers the installation itself.

Are your installations MCS-certified?

We install through MCS-certified partners, so installations meet MCS quality standards. The MCS scheme ensures installers follow recognised standards for solar and battery storage systems.
